Off The Field

Beyond Baseball

Washington FCA Baseball demands a high level of effort from our players both on and off the field.  Obviously, we strive to perform well on the diamond.   Off the field, we stress the importance of our athletes being a “Light in the Darkness”, demonstrating what it means to live in a Christ-like manner.   We expect an unmatched work ethic in all areas of their lives.  We expect excellent grades and study habits in school.  We expect them to adhere to the highest moral standards in living drug free, celibate, morally positive lives.  Not only is the expectation there to demonstrate this lifestyle, but we strive to have our players live this lifestyle, both externally and in their thought-life.  Their example should serve as an inspiration to their peers.

Among the off the field activities that Washington FCA Baseball Players are expected to take part in …

Monthly Team Bible Studies

Every month, our Club Pastor, Jonathan Rainey, meets with the teams to take a deep dive into The Word.  Jonathan brings The Bible to life for the FCA players and families by adding a dash of down-home realism to it’s teachings ~ always something practical, always something meaningful, and always something inspirational.  Our players look forward to these meet-ups for the fellowship and guidance they bring to each player and the entire organization.

Community Outreach
Every team does their own thing during the year. Some of the activities that our teams have gotten involved in include volunteering with the Special Olympics, working at the Union Gospel Mission feeing the homeless, work and cleanup parties, interning at sports camps, and many other selfless activities. Every year, a group of FCA players along with the staff from Rijo Athletics goes on a mission trip to Nicaragua.

Walking the Walk on the Field

Our players most definitely walk the Christian walk on the baseball field. Teams pray before every game, inviting the opposition to join in prayer before playing ball. After the game, it’s not uncommon to see our players and coaches fraternizing with the opposition players, coaches and fans … making the effort to really reach out and get to know the people they’re competing against. One of the most frequent comments we hear from other teams is that it’s almost a relief to play an FCA team … even when they beat us! Our goal is to positively impact everyone we come into contact with, regardless of the result.
